8. Vedangas : The six limbs of Veda Purusa

The Vedangas, also known as the six limbs of the Veda Purusha, are a set of texts that are considered to be ancillary to the Vedas. The Vedangas were developed to provide a framework for the study and interpretation of the Vedas, and to ensure their proper recitation and understanding. The six Vedangas are:

1. Shiksha (Phonetics): Shiksha deals with the pronunciation and accentuation of the Vedic texts. It includes the study of the various sounds and rhythms used in Vedic recitation, as well as the rules for proper pronunciation.

2. Vyakarana (Grammar): Vyakarana deals with the grammar and syntax of the Vedic texts. It includes the study of the various grammatical structures used in the texts, as well as the rules for their proper use.

3. Chandas (Metrics): Chandas deals with the poetic meter and structure of the Vedic texts. It includes the study of the various meters used in Vedic poetry, as well as the rules for their proper use.

4. Nirukta (Etymology): Nirukta deals with the etymology and interpretation of the Vedic texts. It includes the study of the various words and phrases used in the texts, as well as their meanings and interpretations.

5. Jyotisha (Astrology/Astronomy): Jyotisha deals with the astronomical and astrological aspects of the Vedic texts. It includes the study of the movements of the sun, moon, and stars, as well as the rules for calculating dates and times for Vedic rituals and ceremonies.

6. Kalpa (Ritual): Kalpa deals with the rituals and ceremonies described in the Vedic texts. It includes the study of the various rituals and ceremonies performed in Vedic culture, as well as the rules for their proper performance.

Together, the six Vedangas provide a comprehensive framework for the study and interpretation of the Vedas. They are considered to be an essential part of Vedic knowledge, and are still studied and practiced by scholars and practitioners of Vedic tradition today.
